Beware of These 9 Google Play Apps Stealing Your Facebook Credentials

Discover how certain Google Play apps were secretly capturing Facebook login details and learn how to protect your account.

Make sure these apps aren’t installed on your smartphone.

Security researchers at Dr.Web have uncovered multiple malicious applications on Google Play containing trojans designed to steal Facebook login credentials. These apps have been downloaded over 5.8 million times, with the majority of downloads attributed to one app — PIP Photo.

Here is the list of the 9 identified apps:

  • PIP Photo — over 5.8 million downloads;
  • Processing Photo — over 500,000 downloads;
  • Rubbish Cleaner — over 100,000 downloads;
  • Inwell Fitness — over 100,000 downloads;
  • Horoscope Daily — over 100,000 downloads;
  • App Lock Keep — over 50,000 downloads;
  • Lockit Master — over 5,000 downloads;
  • Horoscope Pi — over 1,000 downloads;
  • App Lock Manager — over 10 downloads.

While these apps appeared legitimate—offering photo editing, daily horoscopes, and Android optimization—they required users to log in with their Facebook accounts to unlock full features or remove ads.

Users were presented with a standard Facebook login form, but the credentials entered were immediately intercepted by a malicious script. Once logged in, the apps extracted session cookies and transmitted them to attackers’ servers, compromising the users’ Facebook accounts.

Although most of these apps have been removed from Google Play, they may still exist on third-party websites and users’ devices. If you have installed any of these apps, it is highly recommended to uninstall them immediately and change your Facebook password to secure your account.
