Beware of Varenyky: The Malware That Records Your Screen in Private Moments

Cybersecurity firm ESET has uncovered a new malicious software named Varenyky. This malware is designed to steal login credentials, send spam, and most disturbingly, record the user’s screen while they are viewing adult content.
Varenyky typically infiltrates devices through deceptive email attachments disguised as fake invoices. Just one click on the attachment triggers the malware.
Once activated, the malware launches the Tor network to anonymously connect with its command and control (C&C) server. It then scans running applications and open windows for adult content. When such content is detected, Varenyky begins recording the screen and sends the captured video footage back to the attackers.
First identified in May 2019, Varenyky initially targeted customers of the French ISP Orange SA. However, ESET experts warn that this malware can strike anywhere and is actively evolving.
