Owning a fully equipped camper van ready for long trips and comfortable living can be a significant investment, often costing more than a brand-new apartment. However, converting an old vehicle by stripping it down and fitting it with essential living amenities offers a more affordable and personalized alternative.

This is exactly what 28-year-old American Michael does in his spare time. He specializes in converting decommissioned vehicles into mobile homes. For one of his projects, he acquired a 1992 Ford E-350, which previously served as an ambulance and later was used to transport artificial turf.

Michael began by completely clearing the interior and carefully planning the layout for all the necessary furniture and appliances.

Next came the installation of wiring, power outlets, and the interior paneling made from two types of wood, adding warmth and durability.

The paneling included a custom niche for a refrigerator, a countertop with a sink, shelves, and compartments designed for storing small items efficiently.

At the rear, a foldable bed was installed, which folds up to occupy one-third of the space when not in use. Opposite the countertop, soft seating with storage drawers underneath maximizes space utilization.

A television was mounted above the passageway connecting the driver's cabin to the living area, enhancing entertainment options during travel.

The final touches included repainting the exterior, minor body repairs, and engine maintenance to ensure reliability on the road.

The entire project took four months to complete, with Michael working on it during evenings and weekends. Without time constraints, he estimates the conversion could be done within a month. Michael hopes to turn this rewarding hobby into his full-time profession someday.
