Pebble Index 01 Ring: Self-Charging Voice Recorder That Works Offline
Pebble unveils the Index 01 ring—a finger-worn microphone that records notes and stores short offline audio when your phone isn’t nearby, with plans for future open-source enhancements.
Pebble, known for its smartwatch lineup, has unveiled the Index 01 ring—a compact voice recorder you wear on your finger. The ring captures quick thoughts with a single press and sends transcripts to a companion app.
Designed to work via Bluetooth, the device can store up to five minutes of audio locally when your phone isn't nearby, letting you capture ideas even offline for a brief window.

Pebble founder Eric Migikovsky calls Index 'external memory for the brain' and designed it for personal use to quickly capture thoughts and tasks.
The ring does not require charging; the battery can last for years if used only briefly. However, continuous recording for 15 hours will drain the battery.

Additional features include timers, alarms, and reminders. It can also integrate with popular services. For example, recordings can automatically be sent to Notion, and on Android devices you can set alarms directly in the system app. On iOS, this is not available due to Apple's restrictions.

In the works: the developer plans to expand capabilities, including integration with a chat bot. Like the rest of the Pebble ecosystem, Index components will be open-source, allowing third-party developers to extend functionality.
Preorders are available for $75. After the official launch in March 2026, the price will rise to $99. The device comes in three colors and several sizes.
Expert comment: The Index 01 demonstrates how a tiny wearable can turn quick thoughts into action with minimal friction, though offline use remains limited by storage and battery life. Analysts expect the open-source approach to spur broader ecosystem growth.
Summary: Pebble’s Index 01 ring offers a discreet, hands-free way to capture ideas with a built-in microphone and fast syncing to the Pebble app. It targets users who want a compact note-taking companion with brief offline storage. Preorders start at $75, rising to $99 at launch in March 2026, with multiple colors and sizes available.
Key insight: A small wearable can transform spontaneous thoughts into actionable notes with minimal effort, but its usefulness hinges on offline limits and platform constraints.
