Despite rumors of his escape, authorities confirmed that Bishimbaev remains in a maximum-security facility. Shortly after, it was revealed that he won a legal battle against his former wife concerning the termination of parental rights.
Authorities dismissed the escape rumors, stating: "False information about Kuandyk Bishimbaev's escape is circulating on social media. He continues to serve his sentence in a maximum-security institution."
Nazym Kaharman confirmed that Bishimbaev remains in the country. After his crime was publicized, she sought to revoke his parental rights over their three children but recently revealed to informburo.kz that she lost the case.
In her personal blog, Nazym shared a courtroom photo, writing: "6.5 years ago, I was here at the city court appealing the first case involving Bishimbaev, defending him then. Today, I am here again, but opposing him! We lost! Naturally, I am upset and believe the decision is unfair. The case was decided in just 45 minutes, with the presiding judge rushing and interrupting. Apparently, there were more pressing matters on their mind…"
She further explained that the court upheld the initial ruling, meaning Kuandyk retains his parental rights.
"I strongly disagree. This is pure formalism, focusing solely on the fact that the marriage was unregistered. Moreover, our psychological report detailing the substantial emotional damage to the children was completely ignored," Nazym lamented.
Madina Uatbekova, the plaintiff's attorney, shed light on the situation, noting that the appellate court's decision lacked justification and that the official ruling would be issued in the coming days. "We plan to appeal to the Supreme Court, and if accepted, the case will be reviewed there," she stated.
On November 9, marking the first anniversary of Saltanat Nukenova's death, Nazym posted a heartfelt message: "Life is unpredictable. Exactly one year ago, I could never have imagined how drastically our lives would change, the challenges we would face, and the unexpected grief that would strike. During that time, my daughter wrote to her father: 'If I feel this bad now, imagine how Saltanat’s parents feel.'"
It is important to note that Nazym and the late Saltanat shared a close relationship. After the tragic events, Nazym revealed the abuse she endured during her 14-year relationship with Bishimbaev. Their marriage was fraught with difficulties, as the politician frequently unleashed anger and accusations on her. She recalled the emotional toll and the struggle to end the relationship, often being told she was "old and unwanted" when requesting a divorce.
"I remember being 31 years old — the same age as Saltanat when she was killed. Gradually, the constant emotional abuse from my husband eroded my self-esteem and confidence to their lowest point," Nazym previously shared.
