Controversy Surrounds Teacher Over Dance Video, Sparks Debate on Educators' Personal Lives

A young educator revealed that he submitted his resignation under intense pressure but now plans to return to graduate his current class.

Daniil Malyavin is a chemistry and biology teacher who began working at two schools in Khabarovsk after graduating from university. School administrators were aware of his previous involvement in dance and requested he remove all related content from the internet. Daniil complied, deleting videos from his dance studio days.

However, two years later, a video of Daniil performing choreography in heels to Anna Asti's song "Phoenix" resurfaced. On September 11, public figure Andrey Nikonov shared the footage on his Telegram channel.

"I hope there won't be another teacher like this in Khabarovsk! These disturbing convulsions of a man in heels clearly do not promote traditional values," Nikonov wrote.

This post sparked controversy around Daniil, leading to pressure for his resignation.

Daniil served as deputy principal for educational work and class supervisor. Nikonov criticized, "Those in such positions should be moral role models for children, not examples of moral decline."

For years, there has been debate online about whether teachers can freely manage their personal lives outside school. Some argue that everyone is entitled to their hobbies, while others believe teachers must dedicate themselves fully to their profession.

Speaking to the Telegram channel Shot, Daniil shared that after the video went viral, he was asked to resign from both schools. Nevertheless, he intends to return to graduate his eleventh-grade class.

Daniil recounted being summoned by school leadership and threatened with an unspecified violation of the teaching code. He claims he signed the resignation under shock and severe pressure.

The teacher explained that the viral video was recorded four years ago when he was teaching at a local dance studio.

He now plans to withdraw his resignation and petition the governor of Khabarovsk Krai to reinstate him in the schools.

Daniil’s personal blog currently contains no dance-related content. His profile header reads: "Best Young Teacher of the City and Region – 2024. Defile Instructor. Member of the Youth Council under the Khabarovsk City Administration."

Earlier this year, he proudly shared his achievements: "This year, I prepared and performed well in two significant professional skill competitions."
