Passenger Recalls Harrowing Escape From Emergency Landing on Domestic Flight
Survivors of the emergency landing share emotional memories, highlighting unexpected behaviors during the evacuation and heroic pilot actions.
Passengers aboard the flight still recall the traumatic event with tears in their eyes. Elena Vihrenko was surprised by how men prioritized their own escape over assisting women with children.
On September 12, 2023, a Ural Airlines aircraft made an emergency landing in a wheat field in the Ubinsky district of Novosibirsk region.
During the Sochi to Omsk flight, the plane experienced hydraulic system failure and ran out of fuel. Demonstrating exceptional skill and professionalism, the pilots safely landed the aircraft. This incident has been called a true miracle by many, as all 161 people on board—including 23 children and 6 crew members—survived with only two requiring minor medical assistance.
Even a week later, passengers find it difficult to recall the experience without becoming emotional. On the "Stars Aligned" program on NTV, survivors shared their accounts of the emergency landing.

Elena Vihrenko was returning home from vacation with her daughter, granddaughter, and son-in-law. She recalled hearing unusual noises during the flight, followed shortly by the pilot's announcement of an emergency landing. Panic quickly spread among passengers.
"I screamed out loud and prayed to God for help. I prayed to all the saints. I never thought we would survive—there was no such thought. How could there be?" Elena remembers.
After the successful landing, emotions ran high:
"Some shouted, others screamed. There was applause—it was exhilarating! I remember being told, 'Get up and run, you need to leave the plane now.'"

Hosts of "Stars Aligned" asked about the men's behavior during evacuation—whether they helped women and children.
"They ran!" Elena stated.
According to her, everyone was focused solely on their own escape, so she had to push people aside to ensure her daughter and infant granddaughter could safely exit the plane.
Once outside, flight attendants provided a warm blanket to wrap the little girl in. That red blanket and the safety belt used to secure infants during flights have become cherished family keepsakes, symbolizing a second birthday.

The story of pilot Sergey Belov, who skillfully landed the plane, deeply moved many.
"Our father was also a pilot, as was our grandfather. The family tradition continues. Our father died, and Sergey immediately enrolled in civil aviation university. He graduated and began flying," his mother shared with reporters.
Sergey’s father tragically died in a plane crash while landing a civilian aircraft. Fortunately, history did not repeat itself.
