Russian Railways Unveils New Sleeper Car with Extended Berths: What Do You Think?

The Federal Passenger Company (FPC), a subsidiary of Russian Railways, has introduced a concept for a new sleeper car with extended berths. Unlike digital renderings, this is a physical model that visitors can explore in person. Several clear photos have been shared on Facebook*.
Compared to standard cars, the passenger cabin length has been increased by almost 3 meters, providing 11% more interior space. Berths in the compartment section are now 15 cm longer, and side berths are extended by 12 cm. Each berth can be separated by a curtain for privacy.
The seating arrangement remains standard: four berths per compartment and two side berths. However, compartments now feature a vertical partition in the form of a cabinet for luggage, shoes, and outerwear storage. A detailed view is available in the video by RIA Novosti.
Movable partitions are installed between compartments, allowing for flexible space management. Small tables are now included near the upper berths. The increased overhead space enables passengers to sit comfortably without bumping their heads on a third berth—because there isn’t one.
Each berth is equipped with power outlets, USB ports for charging devices, air vents, individual reading lights, and convenient pockets for personal items.
The sleeper car is on display at the square near Paveletsky Railway Station in Moscow until October 16. Visitors can explore it on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
