An official said planning for the Alaska meeting is still fluid and that Zelensky might take part in some capacity. Russia occupies around 20% of Ukraine’s territory, and no decisive breakthrough has occurred despite repeated talks in Istanbul.
Russia’s demands include Ukrainian neutrality, military reductions, a halt to NATO aspirations, and the lifting of Western sanctions. Moscow also wants Ukraine to withdraw forces from four occupied regions and demobilize its troops.
