Mark McNamee makes rapid Packers debut after late US arrival
Dublin-born kicker Mark McNamee debuts for the Green Bay Packers just a day after obtaining his US visa, while fellow Irishman Jude McAtamney stars for the New York Giants.
Mark McNamee faced the Green Bay Packers faithful barely 24 hours after touching down in the US. The 25-year-old Irish kicker handled all three kick-off duties in the Packers' 30-10 preseason loss to the New York Jets.
Selected via the 2025 NFL International Player Pathway program, McNamee signed in July but awaited his visa until last week. He arrived in Wisconsin late Friday, just in time for Saturday's matchup.
"I landed around 11pm the night before," he said. "The Packers and immigration lawyers made it happen quickly - it wasn't easy, but I'm grateful. It feels like a new beginning for me and my family."
Another Irish success
In Buffalo, Derry native Jude McAtamney scored a 43-yard field goal and added an extra point as the New York Giants edged the Bills 34-25.
Irish kickers McNamee and McAtamney showcase international talent on NFL stages within days of arrival and opportunity.
