Governor Andrey Chibis was urgently hospitalized and underwent surgery. The assailant has been apprehended and faces up to 20 years in prison.
On the evening of April 4, a man attacked Andrey Chibis, the governor of Murmansk Oblast, stabbing him in the abdomen. The incident occurred after a meeting at the "Stroitel" Palace of Culture, attended by over 300 people. The attacker struck Chibis as he was leaving the venue. Despite his injury, the governor managed to reach his car and was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Reports indicate that Andrey Vladimirovich remains in serious condition, but on April 5 he communicated from his hospital room. According to a video message shared by the Telegram channel Shot, the 45-year-old official is still weak but optimistic.
"Dear friends! I have regained consciousness after the operation. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the doctors who saved me and acted swiftly and efficiently. And of course, thank you all for your support. I will continue to recover and keep moving forward. Everything will be fine!" said Chibis.
Dmitry Panychev, head of the Murmansk Ministry of Health, confirmed that the governor underwent a laparotomy. He added that the governor’s condition is currently serious.
"His condition is serious but stable; necessary medical care has been provided. The laparotomy, revision, and hemostasis were successfully performed," Panychev reported via the Telegram channel "Operational Headquarters Murmansk."

The attacker, identified as 42-year-old Alexander Bydanov, was promptly detained. After stabbing the governor, he attempted to flee. During interrogation, Bydanov admitted to committing the crime due to personal animosity towards Andrey Vladimirovich. He has been charged with attempted murder related to official duties and faces up to 20 years in prison.
"During questioning, the suspect explained that he attacked because of his dislike for the governor, despite never having met him personally. It was also established that he had a prior conviction under Article 115 of the Russian Criminal Code for causing minor bodily harm," the Murmansk Regional Investigative Committee stated.

Currently, a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine all circumstances surrounding the crime. Experts are examining the suspect’s social connections, phone contents, and other electronic devices. Additionally, Bydanov will undergo forensic evaluations, including psychiatric assessments.
