Could Naomi Campbell Have Given Birth to Her First Child Naturally?
Explore the intriguing story behind Naomi Campbell's journey to motherhood and the possibilities surrounding her child's birth.
The world is buzzing with curiosity about how the Black Panther became a mother, with natural birth theories quickly dismissed. But why?
On May 18th, one of the world's top five supermodels, Naomi Campbell, announced the arrival of her baby. The star made her announcement in a now-familiar way for the digital age—through an Instagram post. The photo of the newborn girl initially delighted fans, then sparked surprise, and ultimately raised questions. The contrast between the mother's hand and the baby's feet caught attention, but even more puzzling was that just in April, the supermodel confidently walked the Michael Kors runway without any visible signs of pregnancy.

It’s no wonder many immediately speculated about surrogacy, a route the star likely took. Insiders have revealed that Naomi had long intended to become a mother, and she has previously spoken about medical advancements that can help women have children at any age.

There is also speculation that Naomi did not use her own eggs to conceive. Firstly, she is 51 years old. Secondly, she has had struggles with alcohol and substance abuse. Campbell is also known for her strong personality—after an incident involving throwing a phone at an assistant, she attended anger management courses, which likely involved medication that could have affected her reproductive health.

We consulted with reproductive specialist Dr. Anfisa Anatolyevna Gashenko, PhD in Medical Sciences, who assessed the likelihood of the star being the biological mother of the newborn and shared her expert opinion.

“It’s definitely possible for her to have given birth. Women can give birth even at 60 years old. However, it’s highly likely that the pregnancy was achieved through IVF using donor eggs. In reproductive medicine, such cases are common. Alternatively, she could have used her own eggs frozen 10-15 years ago. If the uterus is intact, pregnancy is possible even if the woman no longer menstruates. The IVF process involves creating embryos, administering hormonal therapy, and transferring the embryo to the uterus. After that, the woman carries the pregnancy, even if she is 50 years old,” explains Dr. Gashenko.

The next question is: whose eggs were used?
“Eggs could have been retrieved recently, but they would unlikely result in a viable pregnancy. I have personally retrieved eggs from a 51-year-old patient; embryos developed, but none passed genetic testing due to chromosomal abnormalities. This is common for women at this age—the chance of conceiving and giving birth naturally with one’s own eggs at 50 is almost zero,” the expert asserts confidently.
Of course, Naomi might have frozen her eggs years ago, but back then, she was involved with substance use, which could have compromised the quality of her biological material. Moreover, family planning was not on her mind at 30, nor did she have a steady partner. Therefore, it all points to Naomi Campbell having used donor eggs.
