Luke Littler clinches first Players Championship Finals title with win over Nathan Aspinall in Minehead

World number one Luke Littler wins his first Players Championship Finals title, beating Nathan Aspinall 11-8 in Minehead as Beau Greaves falls in the World Youth final.

Luke Littler sealed his maiden Players Championship Finals title with an 11-8 win over Nathan Aspinall in Minehead.

The 18-year-old, who followed his Grand Slam of Darts triumph in Wolverhampton and sits atop the world rankings, added another major trophy to his collection.

Aspinall closed the gap to 9-8 as he won four of five legs, but Littler steadied himself and finished with an 88 checkout to seal his sixth televised title.

Littler said he was proud to check this title off his list and noted that just two more majors remain on his target list. He also pointed out that the European Championship and World Masters are still on the horizon.

His final average was 103.33 to Aspinall’s 93.64, and Aspinall fired seven maximums to Littler’s six.

Littler commented that reaching the final was not easy, citing Aspinall’s recent strong form and acknowledging he needed to dig deep to close it out. He added that he was starting to show more emotion and is already looking ahead to the big events next month.

Earlier in the day, Littler defeated Chris Dobey 10-5 in the last 16 before edging former world champion Gerwyn Price 11-8 to reach the final.

Meanwhile, Aspinall had cruised into his seventh major final by defeating Jermaine Wattimena 11-2.

Aspinall praised Littler’s energy and his impact on the game, saying it is a privilege to share the stage with such a competitor.

Greaves beaten in world youth final

England’s Beau Greaves was edged 6-3 by Gian van Veen in the World Youth Championship final in Minehead. Greaves had earlier beaten Littler 6-5 in a thrilling semi to reach the youth final, becoming the first woman to do so.

The 21-year-old from Doncaster fell 4-1 behind before mounting a late rally to reach 4-3. Van Veen, the defending champion who had earlier been knocked out in the second round of the main event, held on to claim the youth title, becoming the second player to retain the youth crown after Dimitri van den Bergh in 2018.

Greaves, a three-time WDF Women’s World Champion, ends the PDC Women’s Series with an 86-match winning run and will participate in the World Championship starting 11 December at Alexandra Palace.
