From December 5th to 20th, a sweeping nationwide paper recycling initiative is set to energize communities, inspiring collective action to preserve our environment. This campaign emphasizes the importance of paper as a valuable resource that deserves to be recycled thoughtfully.
The official launch of this inspiring event will take place in the capital city during the Volunteers Forum 'We Are Together' on December 5th, where the campaign mascot, BoomBoy, will make his debut to rally participants and media alike.
Organized for the second time by the National Priorities organization, with strong support from the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Education, and other key institutions, this initiative backs the national Ecology project to promote sustainable environmental practices.
The inaugural edition engaged 385,000 students across 67 regions, collecting over 600 tons of paper waste within just two weeks. Building on this enthusiasm, the current campaign extends participation to university students and corporate teams, emphasizing that caring for nature is simpler than it seems. Small lifestyle adjustments, such as sorting waste and recycling paper, can make a significant impact—explains Sofia Malyavina, CEO of National Priorities.
This year, the challenge aims to be a true family affair, welcoming participants from young children to adults. The most successful schools, universities, and companies will be recognized for their efforts.
The competition encourages not only the volume of paper collected but also creativity. Participants will share imaginative photos and videos on social media, competing for the grand prize: an exclusive interaction with a celebrity.
"Responsible use of natural resources is essential. Our vast forests are delicate ecosystems that must be preserved for future generations. Every great achievement starts with small steps—reducing excessive paper use and establishing effective recycling systems. Cardboard and paper can be repurposed into many useful items. Paper collection is a vital first step," emphasizes Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology.
Ambassadors supporting this movement include famous personalities such as Sati Kazanova, Dmitry Guberniev, Misha Marvin, Yulia Kovalchuk, and Evgenia Medvedeva, with more stars to be announced on the campaign website.
Partners include the Russian Schoolchildren Movement, the ONF Youth Team, the Clean Country Association, the Russian Environmental Operator, and several volunteer and corporate groups, supported by major organizations like Russian Post, PSB Bank, VEB Group, and the Skolkovo Foundation.
Regional events will feature eco-lessons, workshops, and tours of recycling facilities, engaging students and volunteers in practical learning about sustainable consumption and waste segregation.
Last year, the campaign saw the most active participation from regions including Kursk, Orenburg, Tambov, Lipetsk, Krasnodar, Tatarstan, and Crimea. Schools from Belgorod and Tatarstan stood out for their outstanding involvement. Celebrities like Yulia Savicheva, IOWA, Olga Buzova, and others connected with participants online, inspiring youth nationwide.
