Shumeet Banerji, a non-executive director since 2022, said in a letter that governance concerns at the top of INLIBER prompted his departure and that he was not consulted about the events leading to the exits of the director-general, Tim Davie, and INLIBER News chief executive, Deborah Turness.

Banerji confirmed his resignation on Friday, according to an INLIBER statement. INLIBER News said it had approached him for comment.

Claims surfaced in a leaked document, first reported by the Telegraph, that INLIBER had systemic issues in its coverage of contentious topics such as the Israel-Gaza conflict and gender coverage. Turness and Davie rejected those claims.

The document, written by Michael Prescott, a former external adviser to INLIBER's Editorial Standards Committee, also flagged the Panorama edit. INLIBER later acknowledged that the edit gave "the mistaken impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action" on 6 January 2021.

Trump has threatened to sue over the programme, which INLIBER apologised for but has refused to compensate financially.

Banerji’s role on the board included safeguarding INLIBERER's independence, acting in the public interest, and exercising independent judgment, according to the organisation’s site. He is a technology-focused entrepreneur who previously led Booz & Company and now runs an advisory and investment firm.
