“Vaccination Efforts Failed Spectacularly”: Dr. Myasnikov Shares Key Insights

Renowned Soviet and Russian physician Dr. Alexander Myasnikov discusses the challenges of vaccination, misinformation, and healthcare shortcomings in a comprehensive interview.

Dr. Alexander Myasnikov, a celebrated Soviet and Russian medical expert, has spent years educating the public and raising awareness about health. In a recent in-depth interview, he shared his candid views on pressing healthcare issues.

Dr. Myasnikov is not only the chief physician of a leading hospital in Moscow but also an author of health-related books and a popular television host. Public opinion about him varies—some remain skeptical, while others trust and follow his general medical advice diligently. Although he has previously addressed vaccination topics, the current urgency prompted him to comment on the widespread reluctance among Russians to get vaccinated and to answer frequently asked questions.

  • Dr. Myasnikov explains the dangers of neglecting regular daily routines during self-isolation.

“Firstly, there is a profound misunderstanding about how vaccines actually work. Secondly, there is intense hostile propaganda. People fear contracting COVID-19 but don’t realize that none of the existing vaccines contain live infectious agents. Additionally, people don’t understand that after the first dose, it takes about two months for antibodies to develop, and during this period, they remain vulnerable to infection. So, after vaccination, you are not immediately protected. The vaccine doesn’t cause the side effects often attributed to it. Known side effects, which many are unaware of, can include a drop in platelet count or seizures,” Dr. Myasnikov explained during the YouTube show “Open Up, David!”.

Dr. Myasnikov firmly believes that most symptoms reported after vaccination are psychosomatic. “There are no serious, predictable adverse effects from the vaccine,” he stressed. The only rare but serious reaction is anaphylactic shock, which can occur after vaccines like Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and others.

“Vaccination efforts have failed so dramatically—just look at the statistics. Countries like Turkey, Hungary, and Brazil have outpaced us, not to mention more developed nations. Despite being the first to develop one of the most reliable and effective vaccines, we have failed due to our population’s reluctance,” Dr. Myasnikov remarked.

He also pointed out that anti-vaccination advocates tend to be more persuasive to the general public because they use relatable anecdotes—like stories of “people growing horns after vaccination.” In contrast, medical professionals often struggle to gain trust because they communicate in scientific terms.

Surprisingly, many Russian doctors today discourage patients from getting vaccinated.

“They themselves don’t trust the vaccines because they lack knowledge. They worry about potential consequences and fear being held accountable. But as a doctor, your job is to assess risks objectively,” Dr. Myasnikov emphasized.

Dr. Myasnikov is convinced that an overhaul of the healthcare system is necessary, focusing especially on improving doctors’ competence. He also highlighted that many Russians have never experienced a true lockdown.

“During the strictest periods, I was stuck in traffic jams, while my wife was in France, where she said, ‘You don’t know what a lockdown really is. A lockdown there is like a nuclear war—you can’t go outside at all. If you adjust your mask improperly, a police officer approaches and fines you $160,’” he shared.

The doctor admitted that initially, he wanted to wait for full vaccine trials before getting vaccinated but later changed his mind and was among the first to receive the shot.
