Guardiola optimistic Rodri will return within weeks after muscular setback
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola believes Rodri's hamstring issue will sideline him for just two to three weeks after he limped off early in the win over Brentford.
Pep Guardiola expects Rodri to be sidelined for no more than two to three weeks after limping off inside 20 minutes of City's win over Brentford at Gtech Community Stadium.
The Spain midfielder, who missed most of last term with an ACL rupture, appeared in distress as he was substituted for Nico Gonzalez.
"It's a muscular problem," Guardiola confirmed. "We tried to manage him carefully, but these things happen."
Rodri has featured just 15 times this season and missed last weekend's 5-1 victory over Burnley due to knee pain. "I felt something in my hamstring, but it doesn't seem too serious," the 29-year-old told Sky Sports.
Guardiola added that his decision to withdraw Rodri early in the 2-2 Champions League draw with Monaco was vindicated by Sunday's setback. "You ask why I don't play him 90 minutes every game. This is why we try to keep him to 60-65 minutes."
Erling Haaland's ninth-minute strike secured a 1-0 win and marked Guardiola's 250th Premier League victory.
"A muscular setback forced Rodri off early, but Guardiola remains confident the Spain international will return within weeks."
