Already a sworn deputy sheriff and reserve police officer, Cain said in a Fox News interview that he will "be sworn in as an ICE agent as soon as possible."
Cain released a recruitment video encouraging the public to consider careers with ICE following the agency's July drive to hire 10,000 new staff. ICE is seeking deportation officers, attorneys, criminal investigators, student visa adjudicators and other roles.
Cain starred as Superman in the 1990s TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and has since acted and directed in numerous film and television projects.
ICE announced plans to double its staff amid the Trump administration's target of one million deportations per year. The agency has offered recruitment bonuses of up to $50,000 and student loan assistance, and dropped age limits for applicants. By mid-August, ICE had received over 80,000 applications for the 10,000 open positions.
ICE currently employs around 20,000 officers and support staff across 400 offices nationwide. Recent spending legislation allocated more than $76 billion to ICE, making it the highest-funded federal law enforcement body.
