United signed Lammens, 23, from Belgian side Royal Antwerp for £18.1m on deadline day, edging out interest in World Cup winner Emi Martinez. With Andre Onana loaned to Trabzonspor, Bayindir has begun the Premier League campaign in goal, despite errors leading to goals against Arsenal and Burnley.
"He has great potential to be our goalkeeper for a number of years," Amorim said. "We must balance the present with a focus on the future."
Bayindir, 27, has ten caps for Turkey and more top-flight experience than Lammens, who has only one season as a regular in Belgium’s top division. "It is a different league, different country, different ball," Amorim added. "Altay is going to continue."
Onana, despite a Serie A title with Inter Milan and a Champions League final appearance, struggled for confidence this season and has made a move away permanent after a disappointing EFL Cup exit to Grimsby Town.
Injury Concerns
Mason Mount, Matheus Cunha and Diogo Dalot will all miss the trip to the Etihad Stadium through injury, Amorim confirmed. Cunha sustained a hamstring issue against Burnley, Mount sat out the second half of that match, and Dalot withdrew from Portugal duty with muscular discomfort. "They are all out for this game," the coach said.
Academy Record at Stake
Manchester United have featured at least one academy graduate in every first-team squad since 1937. Kobbie Mainoo was the only homegrown player named in the matchday squad before the international break and had requested a loan move that was denied. Amorim is determined to preserve the club’s proud tradition. "I don't want to be the guy that breaks that," he said.
