5 Viral TikTok Dance Challenges You'll Want to Try

By Masha Rubtsova

Theatre actress at “Sovremennik.” She helped us break down these dance challenges.

1. Like That Challenge

  • Difficulty: 1 out of 5.

This short and simple dance is perfect even if you've never danced before. You can practice it anywhere—even in front of your bathroom mirror. The track behind this challenge is a hit by rapper Doja Cat, whose songs often go viral on TikTok thanks to catchy dance routines. Plus, this move set adapts well to other songs, making it a great way to loosen up and start moving on the dance floor.

Masha's step-by-step guide:

  • Start right at the beginning of the music to keep rhythm easily;
  • make a wave motion with your right arm and snap your fingers, then repeat with your left arm;
  • arch your back with a wave and then circle your hands in front of you;
  • sway forward with your hands extended, then shift your weight to your right leg with another sway;
  • extend your right arm forward, point at the camera or your dance partner, then circle your hand around your head;
  • extend both arms forward one by one, beckon with your right palm as you squat down.

2. Don’t Start Now Challenge

  • Difficulty: 2 out of 5.

Masha's tutorial:

  • Dance in place, emphasizing straightened, slightly bent arms pointing down with palms facing the floor;
  • clench your fists, bend your knees, and sway your hips while moving your arms in sync;
  • continue swaying hips and open two fingers from each fist;
  • make a wave to the right, clap, then spread your arms;
  • dance with soft knees, bring your right hand behind your head, then smoothly straighten it;
  • place fists on your hip bones, tap your wrist with fingers as if signaling time;
  • clench fists again, bend knees, and sway hips side to side;
  • make a small shoulder circle, turn sideways, and moonwalk out of the frame.

3. Supalonely Challenge

  • Difficulty: 3 out of 5.

This upbeat dance is set to a melancholic song by New Zealand singer BENEE. Without paying attention to the lyrics, the rhythm feels lively, making it a fun way to shake off loneliness. The routine is quick to learn: pretend to drum, spread your arms, mimic drinking from a bottle—and smile like TikToker zoifishh who started this challenge.

Masha's tutorial:

  • Wait for the beat, bring your left fist to your right shoulder and push your shoulder forward as if pulling it with your hand;
  • turn your head left and punch an imaginary wall on your right;
  • extend your left arm right, then up, accent your head and hips left, then make a small circle with your hand;
  • raise hands as if holding a camera, "take photos" in front and to the right;
  • cross arms on your chest and straighten down twice;
  • form a "table" with your hands: right wrist under left elbow, left wrist under chin;
  • tap your left hip bone with your left hand and right hip bone with your right;
  • lunge forward on toes with bent knees, wave your arms forward;
  • make a backward circle with your right hand while stepping in place, then repeat with your left hand;
  • form a "bottle" with your hands, pretend to drink while waving side to side;
  • take two steps in place, twirl your finger near your temple, then raise both arms up.

4. Kill This Love Challenge

  • Difficulty: 4 out of 5.

Masha's tutorial:

  • Bend your left arm with elbow pointing left and fist near shoulder. Step back with your right foot while pulling your left arm back. Repeat on the other side;
  • turn left side, mimic holding and shooting a gun while making a slow wave backward;
  • stand on toes and rotate your foot in different directions while dancing with bent arms near your torso;
  • stand upright facing the camera with hands behind your head and feet together. Raise your right arm diagonally up and place the other hand on your waist;
  • step left foot sideways, place left hand on your hip, and squat on your left knee;
  • make a circle above your head with your right hand, turn right side, and touch your left shoulder with your right hand;
  • make three circles with your hand above your head while lifting hips up. Make two circles with both hands passing low, then tap with hands and hips twice;
  • step with left foot, emphasize with your hand down, and pull elbows back as at the start;
  • bring feet together, frame your hands, then spread them apart. Make two body waves and lower your right fist to the floor.

5. WAP Challenge

  • Difficulty: 5 out of 5.

This one is a showstopper. Challenging but incredibly impressive, especially if you have good flexibility. Practice with knee pads to avoid injuries—some beginners have hurt their knees attempting this. Choreographed by professional Brian Esperon from Guam, this routine includes high kicks, splits, and twerking—a full mix of dance and gymnastics.

Masha's tutorial:

  • Jump in place while lifting your left knee bent towards your shoulder, then kick your right leg straight up;
  • squat deeply in grand plié and spread your arms. Get on all fours without touching knees to the floor. Rotate head and hips to one side;
  • briefly straighten up: thrust hips forward, tilt head and arms back, arch your back, then go back to all fours in "cat" position;
  • gently lower onto your stomach with right knee bent in "frog" position and left leg straight. Tap the floor with your right hand while lifting and lowering your glutes to the beat;
  • roll over your left shoulder onto your back, open legs wide into a split, then return to "cat" position;
  • take three steps on your knees, arching your back up and down alternately;
  • extend your knees, make a big circle with your right leg, and sit into a front split. Lift and lower your glutes to the music’s rhythm.
