Xiaomi has introduced the Mijia Glasses Camera, a smart eyewear device equipped with dual cameras that allow users to take high-quality photos without pulling out their smartphones. These glasses also feature polarized lenses, providing effective protection against harmful sunlight.
The primary camera boasts a 50MP sensor complemented by an 8MP telephoto lens. Together, they offer a 5x optical zoom and up to 15x hybrid zoom. Xiaomi has ensured the device cannot be used for covert recording. While the gadget is not exactly discreet, an LED indicator lights up when the camera mode is activated, alerting people nearby that they are being recorded.
The glasses also support augmented reality (AR) features. Initially, they offer two key functions: a real-time translator (from English to Chinese) and AR-guided camera controls. Xiaomi plans to expand these capabilities through future software updates.
In AR mode, visuals are displayed on a 0.23-inch MicroLED screen developed by Sony, combined with prisms that project images onto the glasses’ lenses. The device is powered by an 8-core Qualcomm processor paired with 3GB of RAM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0, though standalone operation details remain undisclosed.
Despite its robust design and smart technology, the glasses weigh only 100 grams. They house a 1,020mAh battery supporting 10W wireless charging, enabling up to 80% charge in just 30 minutes. A magnetic charging connector is included in the package.
The Mijia Glasses Camera will be available for crowdfunding starting August 3rd, with a preorder price of approximately $370 USD. After the launch, the price will increase to around $400 USD.
