Why Did Timofey Unfollow His Mother on Social Media? Exploring the Emotional Struggles Behind the Scenes

Discover the psychological insights into the complex family dynamics between actor Pavel Priluchny, his son Timofey, and Agata Muceniece, shedding light on the emotional challenges faced by all involved.

Many online users believe that the teenager is being manipulated by external influences, with his father and stepmother pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Agata Muceniece's life has become increasingly complicated, with a mother’s heart breaking as she watches her son drift away. Timofey seems to have made a firm decision to cut his mother out of his life, and his recent actions reflect this painful choice.

Since August, Timofey has been living with his father. Despite a court ruling that required him to spend some time with his mother, the situation remains unchanged. Timofey has not returned to Agata’s home and recently unfollowed her on social media, a move that coincided with his father Pavel Priluchny’s birthday.

Agata had high hopes that the court's decision would help rebuild her relationship with Timofey and bridge the gaps that had formed. Unfortunately, Timofey is resolute in his refusal to communicate with his mother. Observers online, noticing that the teenager unfollowed his own mother on social platforms, concluded that such intense animosity couldn’t have appeared out of nowhere. It’s likely that someone has been nurturing and fueling these feelings for a long time. However, psychologists caution against harsh judgments, reminding us that life isn’t just black and white.

"The simplest explanation is that the father and his new wife have cultivated this resentment in the son. The evidence supports this theory: Timofey lives with them, social media is filled with images of a 'happy family,' while the biological mother suffers from being unable to see her son. This scenario is plausible. Children quickly become entangled in manipulative dynamics such as the 'victim-aggressor-rescuer' triangle (Karpman Drama Triangle). Hearing conversations about the situation or witnessing the father's and stepmother’s attitudes toward the mother, the child adopts these feelings," explains psychologist Ksenia Matur.

Another factor might be emotional manipulation or coercion.

"There may be intimidation from the father and his new family. For example, 'If you don't stop communicating with your mother, then... (something good) won't happen,' or 'If you do communicate, then... (something bad) will happen.' Or the child may be led to believe that the mother doesn’t love him and is a bad person because that’s what they are told. At this age, children are vulnerable — they’re not little kids anymore and can understand some things, but they lack life experience and critical thinking skills. So, they are like clay in the hands of their parents and those around them. Where they are pulled is where they go," the expert from Woman.ru adds.

Seeing an idealized family picture at his father’s home, Timofey might take it at face value, believing he will always live in peace and harmony. While this might suit the adults involved in the short term, the child could regret these choices in the future.

"What is happening in the Priluchny family is a nightmare for their children. No child—whether 11, 16, or even 25 years old—should be involved in parental conflicts or divorce disputes. We often encounter cases where one parent turns the child against the other. In such situations, the question arises: does the mother value herself? How strong are her personal boundaries if it’s so easy to turn around the person who loves her most? There is a high likelihood that Agata lacks strong self-support," shares psychologist Evgenia Alexandrova.
