Welsh Amateur Women’s League Joins Football Manager 2025

Aberystwyth Town Women and the Genero Adran Premier are featured in Football Manager 2025, marking a milestone for women's football in Wales.

Small Welsh League Makes Football Manager Debut

For the first time, Wales’s Genero Adran Premier will feature in Football Manager 2025, placing Aberystwyth Town Women and seven other amateur clubs alongside global stars such as Alessia Russo and Aitana Bonmati.

Captain Amy Jenkins, 29, said the inclusion was a welcome surprise. “It’s incredible that a small Welsh town appears on such a large platform,” she said.

The eight-team, largely amateur league attracts attendances in the hundreds but has seen steady growth in quality. Last season’s highest turnout topped 2,200 for a Swansea-Cardiff derby.

Player and lifelong Football Manager fan Jenkins added that featuring in the game brings visibility and credibility to her team and the wider league.

Manager Rhys James hopes the exposure will drive local support and revenue, especially after Wales’ Euro campaign energised interest in the women’s game.

Sports Interactive’s Football Manager is renowned for its detailed simulation and scouting database, used even by professional clubs. Unlike EA Sports FC, it prioritises management over match play.

This edition marks the first to include women’s football, with 11 countries involved. Wales joins traditional powerhouses such as England, Spain and the USA.

Jenkins is joined by brother Leigh, the team’s goalkeeper, continuing a family legacy that began when their late father appeared in past editions as a village team coach.

Midfielder Alaw Davies said the digital presence reinforces the league’s status. “It shows we’re keeping pace with the best,” she commented. Defender Sian Evans added that knowing player names through gaming boosts fan engagement.

Research lead Harry Ware noted factors like Wrexham’s popularity and the stature of Cardiff and Swansea made the Welsh league an appealing addition, offering managers a new challenge.

“Players often choose smaller clubs for the added difficulty, and Wales fits that niche,” he said.

The FAW collaborated with Sports Interactive to license the league’s image rights. Bethan Woolley, the FAW’s head of women’s football, said the game offers tremendous visibility but real-world support still needs strengthening.

“We’re in an exciting period, but there’s a long way to go. Increased visibility creates opportunity, but we must build infrastructure to match,” Woolley said.

Aberystwyth Town Women’s inclusion in Football Manager 2025 highlights the growing profile of Welsh women's football and offers new opportunities for visibility and support.
