However, sources also indicate that William is not eager to rebuild his connection with Harry or to readily forgive his "missteps."
A royal family insider shared with Vanity Fair correspondent and royal expert Katie Nicholl that the brothers have temporarily set aside their conflict at the request of their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
"William and other family members have strong feelings about certain things Harry and Meghan said in their Oprah Winfrey interview, and these issues need to be addressed. But the funeral was not the right time for confrontation," the insider explained.
The expert noted that "this is just the beginning," and soon the ice will break, leading to improved relations between the royal family and the estranged couple.
The key challenge is for Prince William to temper his ego, which currently feels betrayed by Harry. The elder brother was most hurt by accusations made by his red-haired sibling and American wife Meghan Markle regarding racism within the royal family and neglect of mental health needs of palace residents.
Additionally, William has developed trust issues, no longer feeling that his younger brother is among his closest confidants.
"William needs assurance that he can trust Harry and that their private conversations will remain confidential," the insider added.
