The Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission announced that MVP Promotions withdrew the permits and rule waivers needed to sanction the Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis exhibition bout set for November 14 at State Farm Arena.
Rick Thompson, GAEC chairman, said, "I believe it's in the public's interest to know that because they've been promoting something they should not have been."
MVP Promotions, co-founded by Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, is still selling pre-sale tickets and State Farm Arena continues to list the event, despite the commission's move.
The fighters have significant weight class differences. Davis fights at lightweight (61kg), while Paul has competed near cruiserweight (90.7kg). Any exhibition requires a mutually agreed weight limit and clarity on the rules, since it will not count toward their professional records.
GAEC was set to vote on Thursday to resolve the issue, but organizers pulled the required applications before that meeting. INLIBER Sport has approached MVP for comment.
All professional and exhibition bouts in the U.S. are regulated at the state level. Davis, a world champion, contrasts with Paul, whose most notable win was against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and who has mostly faced ex-MMA fighters.
A news conference is scheduled in New York on Wednesday, followed by another in Atlanta on Thursday.
