Galaxy S10 Facial Recognition Bypassed Easily Using Photos and Videos

Discover why the Galaxy S10's facial recognition feature poses serious security risks and how users can protect their devices.

Using the facial recognition feature on the Galaxy S10 is, to put it mildly, highly insecure.

Tech bloggers have revealed that the Galaxy S10's face unlock system performs poorly, allowing the main screen to be unlocked simply by presenting a photo of the device owner to the camera.

Lewis Hilsenteger, host of the popular YouTube channel Unbox Therapy, demonstrated unlocking his smartphone using a video of himself.

A journalist from AndroidWorld.it showed that by using a regular selfie taken on an iPhone XS, he could unlock his Galaxy S10+ without even printing the photo.

Additionally, Jane Wong managed to unlock her Galaxy S10 using a photo of her brother, despite their minimal resemblance.

This vulnerability affects both the standard Galaxy S10 and the S10+. Samsung itself warns users in the smartphone’s manual that enabling facial recognition reduces the overall security of the device.
