Father’s Day 2025: Gift Spending Soars to a Record $22.9 Billion

In 2025, consumers are set to spend nearly $23 billion on Father’s Day gifts, averaging close to $200 per person, marking a new spending milestone.

In 2024, Father’s Day gift spending is expected to hit an unprecedented $22.9 billion, setting a new record according to the National Retail Federation (NRF).

The NRF survey reveals that three-quarters of consumers will participate in Father’s Day celebrations, consistent with previous years. The average spend per person has risen sharply from $172 in 2023 to almost $200 in 2024, surpassing the previous peak of $174 in 2021.

About 50% of gift buyers intend to purchase gifts for fathers and stepfathers, while 25% will buy for husbands, and 20% for sons or brothers.

Greeting cards remain the most popular gift choice, followed by clothing, special outings, gift cards, and personal care items.

There is a notable rise in purchases of higher-priced gifts such as clothing, electronics, and experiences, contributing to the record-breaking spending levels.

Consumers aged 35 to 44 are expected to spend the most, outspending other age groups by nearly $100 on average. Meanwhile, those aged 45 to 54 are increasing their spending by the largest margin, with an average rise of over $57 compared to last year.

Online shopping continues to grow in popularity, with 43% of shoppers opting for digital purchases, up from 40% in 2023. Department stores remain a favored shopping destination for 38% of consumers.

Subscription boxes are gaining traction, with 42% of gift-givers interested in this option, up from 37% last year. Additionally, nearly 30% plan to buy experiential gifts like concert or sports tickets, an increase from 25% in 2022.
