Enhance Your Windows 10 Taskbar Previews for Better Productivity

Learn how to enlarge taskbar window previews in Windows 10 using the Registry Editor to improve your multitasking efficiency.

Managing multiple open applications just became easier.

When you hover your cursor over an active program icon on the Windows 10 taskbar, a window preview appears. This feature helps you quickly identify which applications are currently open.

Windows 10 taskbar window previews can be enlarged beyond default settings
Windows 10 taskbar previews are small by default, which can be limiting on larger screens.

By default, these previews are relatively small. This size works well on devices with 13-inch screens, but on larger monitors, the previews may be too tiny to be useful. Fortunately, you can adjust their size to better suit your display.

Open Registry Editor by pressing Win + R and typing regedit
Access the Registry Editor by pressing Win + R and entering 'regedit'.

Start by opening the Registry Editor. Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter. Alternatively, you can search for regedit in the Start menu.

Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerTaskband

Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value in the context menu
Right-click on an empty space, select 'New' → 'DWORD (32-bit) Value'.

Right-click on an empty area within the Taskband folder, choose NewDWORD (32-bit) Value. Name this new value:

MinThumbSizePx

Assign a numeric value up to 500 to the new parameter
Set a numeric value up to 500 for the new parameter, such as 450.

Double-click the new parameter and assign it a numeric value between 0 and 500—for example, 450. After setting the value, close the Registry Editor.

Restart the Explorer process via Task Manager
Open Task Manager, find the 'Explorer' process, right-click it, and select 'Restart'.

Next, open Task Manager, locate the Explorer process, right-click it, and select Restart to apply the changes.

Enlarged taskbar window previews after modification
Your taskbar previews should now appear significantly larger and more readable.

That's it! Your taskbar window previews are now larger and easier to see. Feel free to experiment with different values in the Registry Editor to find the size that best suits your workflow.

If you want to revert to the default preview size, simply delete the MinThumbSizePx parameter from the registry and restart the Explorer process again.
