According to him, the next-generation iPod Touch will incorporate an Apple A5 processor, distinct from the one used in the iPhone 4S. Specifically, the S5L8942X chip is an enhanced version built using a more efficient 32-nanometer manufacturing process. This processor has already undergone field testing in the current iPad 2 model and the third-generation Apple TV.
Performance tests on the iPad 2 demonstrated a 16% reduction in power consumption compared to the original A5 chip. The version used in Apple TV differs slightly, with one of the two cores disabled to reduce heat output, which suits the device’s needs since full HD video playback requires only a single core.
Consequently, the new iPod Touch will utilize a SoC that is less powerful than the one in the iPhone 5, which is rumored to debut with the Apple A6 chip.
Additionally, Chronic hinted on Twitter about the potential introduction of panoramic photo capabilities in both the iPhone 5 and fifth-generation iPod Touch. However, he later removed the post, explaining that the information was no longer fresh news and did not warrant further sharing.
