Songs like "Say, Beauty," "Stepfather," "War," "Lonely Star," and "Letters" became instant anthems for teenagers nationwide. Yet, where is Factor-2 today? Recently, we connected with Ilya Podstrelov, the group's founder and former lead singer, who shared insights into their current status.
"Currently, I actively tour across Russia, continuing to represent Factor-2. Our concerts mainly feature classic hits, alongside some new tracks. Fans appreciate the nostalgic vibe of our shows," Ilya revealed.
During our conversation, Ilya disclosed that Factor-2 exists in two separate forms today.
"Vladimir also performs under the Factor-2 name — I gave him permission to use the brand. We arranged it so that Vladimir focuses on Germany while I tour Russia. Occasionally, I perform internationally, but our paths don't cross," he explained.
Despite their past friendship, Ilya admitted that his relationship with Vladimir has deteriorated significantly, and they barely communicate now.
"Our fallout stemmed from business disagreements related to the band. During a slow period, I took out a loan to keep us afloat. Vladimir agreed to help repay it, but eventually, everything fell apart, leading to legal disputes," Ilya confessed.
"At one point, I was spending 24 hours a day in the studio to keep the band alive, while Vladimir would just come in to record vocals and then leave for his family. The bulk of the work fell on me, and frankly, I got exhausted. Working nonstop and then splitting the earnings evenly felt unfair," he shared candidly.
When asked about a reunion, Ilya was clear that it’s off the table, emphasizing that their relationship remains strained.
