Trump Urges Swift Progress as Gaza Peace Talks Kick Off
As mediators prepare for indirect talks in Egypt, US president stresses urgency amid ongoing Gaza strikes.

US President Donald Trump has urged mediators to "move fast" as indirect peace talks between Hamas and Israel begin in Egypt, warning that without swift action "massive bloodshed will follow."
These discussions come after Hamas accepted parts of a 20-point US peace plan, including the release of hostages and the handover of Gaza governance to Palestinian technocrats. Key issues on disarmament and Hamas’ future role remain unresolved.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said he expects hostages to start being freed "very soon" and believes the plan will benefit Israel, the broader Arab world and Muslim nations. While allowing minor adjustments, he noted "everybody has pretty much agreed to it."
Despite US calls to halt bombardments, Israeli air strikes and tank fire continue across Gaza, destroying homes and causing civilian casualties. Gaza’s health ministry reports dozens killed in recent operations, and Israel says it will "fire back for defensive purposes."
US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Qatar’s foreign minister and Egyptian and Turkish mediators will join the talks. Proposals include an initial Israeli withdrawal line, though previous maps were rejected by Hamas for restricting return of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
Trump warns that time is of the essence to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
