Experienced coach Steve Cooper signs a three-year contract to lead Danish side Brøndby IF, targeting trophies and European football.
Steve Cooper, who previously managed Nottingham Forest, Leicester City and Swansea City, has been appointed head coach of Brøndby IF in the Danish Superliga.
Cooper, 45, has signed a three-year contract, succeeding Frederik Birk, who was dismissed after four games with the club in fourth position.
His debut will be the home derby against league leaders FC Copenhagen at Brøndby Stadium on Saturday.
Director of football Benjamin Schmedes praised Cooper’s “unique mix of youth, experience, vision and character,” saying he can “elevate both individual players and the club as a whole.”
“We aim to accelerate our growth, achieve our sporting objectives and foster a winning culture at Brøndby Stadium,” Schmedes added.
Cooper’s last role was at Leicester City, where he was relieved of his duties in November 2024 after 12 Premier League games. He led Nottingham Forest to a Premier League promotion in 2022 during his tenure from 2021 to 2023.

After leaving Leicester, Cooper received multiple offers, including from Championship clubs, but was drawn to Brøndby’s clear targets and international experience.
The club, Danish champions four years ago and runners-up two years ago, sit four points behind Copenhagen after seven matches. Cooper’s objectives include competing for trophies and securing European qualification.
He believes the club’s ownership shares his vision for improvement and sees the role as a chance to grow professionally while paving the way for other British coaches abroad.
