Scotland Women to Host Switzerland in Dunfermline, Caroline Weir’s Home City
Scotland will face Switzerland in a friendly at East End Park, Dunfermline, marking Caroline Weir’s first home-city appearance as the team prepares for World Cup qualifiers.
Scotland will host Switzerland at East End Park in Dunfermline on 28 October.
Head coach Melissa Andreatta’s side will face the Euro 2025 hosts in the second of two autumn friendlies, with the first opponent and venue yet to be confirmed. Kick-off is set for 19:30 GMT.
Real Madrid midfielder Caroline Weir, who has won 112 caps and is the first Scottish woman nominated for the Ballon d’Or, will get the chance to represent her country in her hometown for the first time.
The Scotland women’s team normally play at Hampden Park but have recently used Tannadice and Easter Road.
Preparation for World Cup Qualification
Andreatta’s reign began with a narrow home defeat to Austria, which confirmed relegation from Nations League Group A1. Her second match produced a morale-boosting draw against the Netherlands.
The upcoming friendlies in October and November will serve as key preparation for Scotland’s World Cup qualifying campaign, which starts in February.
Scotland have missed the last three major tournaments, most recently failing to qualify for this summer’s Euros after a play-off defeat to Finland. Following that campaign, Pedro Martinez Losa left and Andreatta was appointed in April.
Scotland will test themselves against strong opposition in friendlies as they build momentum for their World Cup qualifiers.
