Paignton Man Says West End Moulin Rouge Spoilt by Rowdy Audience

A Paignton man claims a rowdy pair in the audience spoiled his West End Moulin Rouge experience at the Piccadilly Theatre, despite clear staff warnings.

A Paignton resident has criticised a London theatre after alleging his night out was spoiled by disruptive audience behaviour. Jim Rowe attended the Moulin Rouge show with his wife at the Piccadilly Theatre on 11 October. He says the evening was ruined by two women who talked loudly, filmed scenes, and danced throughout.

Before the performance, ushers displayed a card reminding patrons that videoing, talking, and dancing are not allowed. Mr Rowe claims the rule was ignored by the attendees in front of them, despite the warning.

The theatre operator, ATG, said it has contacted Mr Rowe to discuss his concerns and explore how to resolve the situation positively.

Rowe says he spoke to a supervisor at the interval, but was told there was nothing staff could do and he hoped the second half would be quieter. He says others also complained, but staff did not address the issue promptly.

“I don’t mind people enjoying themselves, but this went beyond what is acceptable,” he said. “There is a time and place for dancing, but it crossed the line and spoiled the evening.”

Rowe had cut his holiday short to attend the show. After the performance, he was offered a free programme and a complimentary drink if he returned, a response he described as unsatisfactory.

ATG said it cannot comment on individual cases but emphasised its commitment to ensuring every guest has the best possible theatre experience. The company noted that although poor audience behaviour is rare, it can have a significant impact when it occurs.
