Luna Fenner arrived in this world in March 2019, marked by a giant birthmark covering a significant portion of her face. Concerned for her daughter's health and well-being, Luna's mother sought medical advice. Doctors revealed that beyond aesthetic concerns, the birthmark posed a potential cancer risk. Medical professionals in the United States were hesitant to proceed with treatment, as Luna would require over 70 surgeries under general anesthesia, a daunting challenge even for adults.
Determined to find a solution, Luna's mother started a blog that quickly gained international attention. Supporters worldwide followed Luna's journey, offering encouragement and assistance to the family.
Eventually, oncologists from Krasnodar, Russia, learned of Luna's case and extended an invitation for treatment using advanced photodynamic anesthesia techniques. Although initially uncertain, Luna's mother chose to pursue this hope, relocating with her daughter to Krasnodar at the end of 2020.

While the cost of treatment in Russia was significantly lower than the estimated half a million dollars in the U.S., the Fenner family still faced financial challenges. Miraculously, generous donors from around the world came together to support Luna, and an anonymous benefactor ultimately covered the full cost of her treatment.
Today, three-year-old Luna has successfully undergone eight procedures, including laser treatments and skin grafts. The latest surgery, completed in October, involved skin grafts on her forehead and eyelids. Dr. Andrey Alekutin, director of the clinic, noted that the healing process will take several weeks and will determine if further treatments are necessary. Remarkably, Luna recovers quickly, able to run and play just hours after anesthesia.
Only a few cosmetic procedures remain to smooth scars before Luna can return home to the United States, ready to embrace a bright future.
