Inside the Dynamic Work Life of Moneyman's Co-Founder and CEO

Explore the inspiring workspace and daily routines of Boris Batin, co-founder and leader of Moneyman, a cutting-edge online microloan service.

Today, we welcome Boris Batin, co-founder and CEO of Moneyman, an innovative online platform that enables users to obtain microloans conveniently from home.

Boris shares insights into his daily work routine, the technology and software he relies on, and even discusses the pros and cons of his iPhone. He also reveals how he balances a busy business life with an active fitness regimen.

What Does Your Work Entail?

Just over a year ago, my business partner Alexander Dunaev and I launched Moneyman.com, an online service that offers instant microloans via the internet. This sophisticated software analyzes user data in real-time to provide immediate loan decisions. Together, we manage the company, engage with investors, and continuously develop the platform.

Describe Your Workspace and Hardware Setup

My workspace features multiple screens: a 27-inch Apple Thunderbolt Display paired with a 13-inch MacBook Air. Handling financial models and employee reports filled with numbers requires a large monitor for efficient document comparison and presentation creation. My laptop is usually open to email and Skype for communication.

I switched to Apple about a year ago, after previously using Sony and Dell laptops. The main reasons were faster startup times and longer battery life. While Sony’s operating system felt more familiar, it often took too long to boot. In contrast, Apple devices power on instantly and offer 5-6 hours of battery life under similar workloads, compared to just 1.5 hours on Sony.

Our company operates from two offices: the main one in Moscow and a secondary office in Minsk. We utilize a large monitor connected via HDMI and a wireless keyboard for seamless communication. Using Skype, we monitor each other’s work in real-time and conduct meetings and planning sessions effectively.

Since I work both in the office and remotely, all my devices—including printers, fax machines, and scanners—are networked together. I’m an avid user of Dropbox and LiveDrive, ensuring constant access to files from any device.

Regarding mobile technology, I switched to an iPhone three years ago. It’s an excellent device for reading emails and managing files. Its built-in camera remains unmatched in quality among smartphones. However, the iPhone does have its drawbacks; for instance, its call quality is not as strong as Nokia’s, but I tolerate this in exchange for other advanced features.

On long trips, I primarily rely on my phone. I lead an active lifestyle—in fact, I recently biked across Mexico. The iPhone’s capabilities were sufficient to hold Skype meetings, check emails, and stay updated on important business matters.

Additionally, I sometimes train for competitions while discussing business with my partner via tablet.

What Software Do You Use?

My operating system is macOS, which took some getting used to since I grew up with Windows. Advanced users often run two operating systems to access software unavailable on Mac, but I haven’t adopted this yet. For email, I’m a fan of Outlook, though it performs poorly on Mac. Currently, I use web interfaces like Yandex and Google Mail. I’m quite meticulous about checking emails—I do so first thing in the morning and frequently throughout the day, similar to checking the time.

Do You Still Use Paper in Your Work?

Absolutely. I keep a large sheet of paper on my desk for quick notes. I also maintain a simple notebook to record meeting outcomes and daily plans. Despite the convenience of digital devices, I prefer paper for reading and note-taking, though many have switched to iPads.

What Would Your Ideal Tech Setup Look Like?

I dream of seamless synchronization across all my applications—for example, saving an email contact in Yandex that automatically updates my phone contacts. It would also be great to have an intuitive app accessible on both computer and phone to monitor which tasks our developers are working on in real-time.
