Therapeutic fasting involves a temporary abstinence from food, often misunderstood as merely a quick fix for dropping a few kilos. In reality, its primary purpose is to detoxify the body. During fasting, metabolism accelerates, energy surges by the third or fourth day, immunity strengthens, and the body's self-repair mechanisms activate. Even chronic conditions like allergies or arthritis may ease significantly.
But what does this look like in real life?
About seven years ago, my partner and I decided to unwind at a health retreat nearby that offered therapeutic fasting and homeopathy. We opted for a diet-based approach without fasting initially. At 33 years old, my sedentary lifestyle and poor nutrition had pushed my weight to 87 kilograms at 171 centimeters tall—uncomfortable but manageable. However, warning signs like near fainting on a bike ride and a blackout during a stress ECG test revealed underlying health issues: circulatory problems, high cholesterol, weakened lungs with asthma, connective tissue fragility, and allergies.

On day seven, I joined a 14-kilometer forest hike fueled by newfound vitality despite consuming only around 300 calories daily.
After completing the 10-day fast, I gradually transitioned back to regular food.
Results and Reflections
Over two weeks, I shed 7 kilograms and experienced relief from allergies. Inspired, I purchased a stationary bike and adopted a healthier lifestyle. The fasting experience transformed my taste preferences, helping me maintain a stable weight of 72 kilograms since. My partner and I have since returned to the clinic multiple times for therapeutic fasting.
