The 34-year-old winger joined Wigan on a short-term deal from Gloucester but struggled to secure a lasting role, making just two appearances and scoring in each before handling errors against Hull FC ended his run in July.
Wade ranks second in Premiership try-scoring history, just eight tries shy of Chris Ashton’s record, and his move is among Newcastle’s first major signings following the club’s Red Bull takeover.
"It’s been an honour to represent Wigan Warriors," Wade said. "I embraced the challenge, learned a lot, and the fans’ passion reminded me of football atmospheres. I’m grateful for my time there."
Wigan head coach Matt Peet added: "Christian has been professional and committed. We wish him and his family all the best in this next chapter with Newcastle. His outstanding career speaks volumes."
Wade’s diverse career includes 82 tries in seven seasons with Wasps, a stint in the NFL’s International Player Pathway joining the Buffalo Bills in 2019, and returns to rugby union with Racing 92 and Gloucester.
Newcastle boss Steve Diamond said: "Christian’s high standards at Gloucester and willingness to test himself in rugby league impressed me. His ambition and skill will be vital as we build our squad."
