“The cut needed stitches, but dehydration was the main issue,” Eubank Jr told 5 Live Boxing. “My face and body swelled and I couldn’t function for a day or two. The headache was unbearable.”
Despite comfortably making the 12st 1lb rehydration limit on fight day, Eubank Jr admitted the weight restrictions weakened his legs and forced him into a punishing dogfight. “I had to keep punching until the referee stopped the fight,” he said.
Father’s Surprise Return
In a dramatic twist, Eubank Sr unexpectedly appeared at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, marking a reconciliation after a public estrangement. Eubank Jr said he learned of his father’s attendance the night before the bout and confirmed the former world champion will be ringside again for the November rematch.
“I was getting ready for bed when I got the call: ‘I’m coming to the hotel,’” he recalled. “His presence gave me extra motivation. Family means everything. He’s been my hero since childhood.”
Despite a punishing dehydration process and rehydration clause, Eubank Jr’s resilience and his father’s surprise reunion ignited extra determination for the upcoming rematch.
