WhatsApp Introduces Feature to Make Regular Chats Disappear Automatically
WhatsApp is enhancing its disappearing messages feature by enabling users to apply self-deletion settings to existing chats, offering greater privacy control.

WhatsApp is actively improving the disappearing messages functionality: after testing the ability to undo self-deletion for individual messages in April, the platform now plans to allow users to enable automatic deletion for older chats on a large scale.
This update was spotted in WhatsApp beta version 2.22.16.8. Within the message self-destruction settings for new chats, a button now appears that lets users select older conversations and apply the chosen disappearing message settings to them. For example, if new chats are set to delete messages after 90 days, the same rule can be applied manually to selected older chats.
The setting is located somewhat deep within the app’s options, which might affect convenience. However, since this feature is not expected to be used frequently, it makes sense that developers prioritized more commonly accessed settings.
It remains unclear when the feature will be released publicly, as it is currently available only to a limited number of beta testers.
