Update: Since Chrome 71, the #enable-tab-audio-muting flag has been removed by developers. By default, the browser now offers the option to “Mute Site.” To revert to the previous functionality, disable the chrome://flags/#sound-content-setting flag in your browser settings, and the tab context menu option will change to “Mute Tab.”
Previously, muting a tab was temporary and had to be redone after closing it. With Chrome 64 and later, muting a site once ensures it stays silent on future visits. Here's how to activate this feature:
- Navigate to the website you want to mute.
- Right-click the tab and select “Mute Site.”
- To restore sound, right-click the tab again and choose “Unmute Site.”
