😱 Lifehacker Welcomes a New Editor-in-Chief

Discover the exciting editorial changes at Lifehacker starting June 1st and meet the new editor-in-chief leading the charge.

We’re excited to share what’s changing at Lifehacker’s editorial team as of June 1st.

Maria Verkhovtseva, the current editor-in-chief of Lifehacker, is leaving the company to pursue a career outside of media. From June 1st, Polina Nakraynikova, Lifehacker’s current managing editor and former editor-in-chief of Bigvill.ru, will take the helm.

Polina joined Lifehacker in February as managing editor, overseeing author recruitment, columnist coordination, publication planning, and editorial training.

Editor-in-Chief of Lifehacker.

Just a year ago, I couldn’t have imagined that a small step up the career ladder would turn into a leap: from being the editor-in-chief of the Samara-based site ā€œBig Village,ā€ to becoming Lifehacker’s managing editor in February, and now, four months later, its editor-in-chief. If you’re curious how this happened so quickly, here’s the secret: I worked hard and never took my responsibilities lightly.

I am deeply grateful to the team for their trust and wish Maria all the best in pursuing her dreams. After all, Lifehacker has always been about striving toward goals and never giving up. Maria, you have taught me so much.

My top priorities include making the editorial process more transparent and delivering outstanding content consistently. I plan to focus more on motivation, productivity, and inspiration. Upcoming projects include a new Lifehacker book, a provocative series about things we all dislike, and promoting our fresh podcast ā€œWho’s Talking.ā€ In short, we’re just getting started.

Maria Verkhovtseva led Lifehacker for three years since July 2016. She is now moving on to marketing roles within the restaurant industry.

I worked at Lifehacker for seven years, which is a long time in media. I started as a regular contributor, explored various roles from social media management to managing editor, and eventually became editor-in-chief.

At some point, I felt I hit a ceiling and struggled to contain my creative urges. I also developed a strong desire to completely change my career path and follow my dream: to dive into the restaurant business and possibly open my own establishment.

I leave with a light heart, confident that I’m passing the editor-in-chief baton to Polina Nakraynikova, and leaving behind a strong, carefully selected team.

Maria has been with Lifehacker since 2012, progressing from SMM manager to managing editor, and then to editor-in-chief.

During the three years Maria served as editor-in-chief, she accomplished a tremendous amount. New editorial formats were introduced, standards for writing quality significantly increased, many processes were streamlined, and for the first time, an open editorial policy was established. As a result, Lifehacker’s audience grew substantially, transforming it into a major and influential publication.

Maria’s departure saddened not only me but everyone who worked with her. However, we respect her decision to explore new directions.

We have no doubt in entrusting the editor-in-chief position to Polina Nakraynikova. Although she joined Lifehacker relatively recently, she has already proven her exceptional skills and value. We have ambitious plans ahead, and Polina is the perfect candidate to lead us there.

Maria is embarking on a new journey in a field she has long wanted to explore. Maria, we wish you the best of luck, we love you, and thank you for everything. ā¤ļø
