Previously, in July of the previous year, the Moscow Arbitration Court prohibited Samsung from selling devices supporting Samsung Pay within Russia. By October, this restriction was extended to include 61 smartphone models released since 2017.
Sqwin SA asserts its patent rights over the contactless payment technology used in these devices and claims financial losses due to the sales of Samsung's Galaxy series. Samsung disputes these allegations and is actively seeking to invalidate Sqwin SA's patent.
The next court hearing is scheduled for January 31, signaling that the dispute is far from over.
