Jersey Police Leveraging AI to Combat Crime, Annual Report Shows
Annual police report highlights the force’s use of AI and digital tools to enhance crime-fighting efficiency and address rising youth crime and missing person cases.
The Jersey Police Service has embraced artificial intelligence (AI) and digital systems to enhance crime-fighting capabilities, according to the annual report published by the Jersey Police Authority.
Simon Harman, chair of the Authority, commended the force for integrating technology, noting a pilot program launched in March that uses AI to transcribe witness interviews.
The report also highlighted a rise in incidents involving missing youths and youth crime, with related costs estimated at £1.8m in 2024.
Complexity of cases
Police have introduced AI tools to deliver “long-term efficiencies and enhanced decision-making,” while maintaining human oversight over all processes.
Chief Constable Robin Smith warned that digital forensics faces growing challenges due to increasing costs, data volume, and demand.
“The complexity of cases and the large volume of data require significant resources and expertise, which we continue to develop,” he said.
The report recorded 741 missing person cases, predominantly involving young people, underlining the need for sustained focus and resources in this area. Traffic incidents rose sharply, with over 1,000 speeding offences, 54 serious injury collisions, 675 non-injury crashes, and a 28% increase in vehicle crime.
Jersey Police are harnessing AI and digital forensics to boost efficiency and tackle rising youth crime and missing person cases.
