It’s hard to imagine how many notebooks have been sacrificed to create paper airplanes flying off my balcony! My friends and I used to hold tournaments, experimenting with different types of paper and adding weights to various parts of our paper designs. After some neighborhood complaints and warnings, we started tying our airplanes with spool thread so we could easily retrieve them.
Launching from the balcony allowed our planes to fly far and beautifully, but getting a fast, powerful launch from flat ground was a challenge. Thanks to this handy tip, I now have the perfect way to launch paper airplanes quickly and far — and I enjoy doing it with my son! The trick is to attach a rubber band loop to the base of your paper flyer. Using a simple pencil, you can launch it like a catapult.
To launch, hook one end of the rubber band onto a pencil or stick, pull the airplane backward, and release. The original creator promises a swift flight over an impressive distance.
