In the second quarter of 2024, General Motors (GM) posted its most robust U.S. sales performance in over three years, driven by surging consumer interest in full-sized pickup trucks and electric vehicles.

The nation’s leading automaker delivered 696,086 vehicles during Q2, representing a 0.6% year-over-year increase and marking its best quarterly sales since Q4 2020.

EV deliveries soared to a record 21,930 units, reflecting a 40% rise compared to the prior year, largely propelled by the popularity of the Cadillac Lyriq. Simultaneously, full-size pickup truck deliveries climbed to their highest point since 2021.

Despite these gains, GM's total sales for the first half of 2024 stood at 1,290,319 vehicles, a slight 0.4% decline from the previous year.

Marissa West, GM’s Senior Vice President and President of North America, emphasized, "Our success hinges on meeting evolving customer preferences, whether they choose cutting-edge EV technology or familiar engine options."

GM's stock closed Tuesday at $46.95, up 0.6%, marking an approximate 30% increase year-to-date.

Meanwhile, Tesla also exceeded analysts’ expectations with its latest Q2 delivery figures released on Tuesday.
