England omit Kate Cross from Women’s World Cup squad as Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sarah Glenn return

England leave out experienced seamer Kate Cross from their squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 in India and Sri Lanka, with Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sarah Glenn earning recall.

England have omitted seamer Kate Cross from their squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, while Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sarah Glenn earn recalls.

Former captain Heather Knight, back from a hamstring issue, also makes the cut.

Cross, 33, a leading ODI bowler with 101 wickets from 76 outings, has struggled with form since a late-2024 back injury. She was sidelined during the gruelling Ashes tour, where England suffered a 16-0 whitewash in Australia.

This summer she featured in four ODIs—three against the West Indies and one vs India—taking just three wickets at an average of 55.

The World Cup kicks off on 30 September, with England opening against South Africa in Bengaluru on 3 October. Australia, the 2022 champions, begin title defence on 19 October.

England squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup:

  • Emma Arlott
  • Tammy Beaumont
  • Lauren Bell
  • Alice Capsey
  • Charlie Dean
  • Sophia Dunkley
  • Sophie Ecclestone
  • Lauren Filer
  • Sarah Glenn
  • Amy Jones
  • Heather Knight
  • Emma Lamb
  • Nat Sciver-Brunt (captain)
  • Linsey Smith
  • Danni Wyatt-Hodge
England have opted for fresh spin options and batting depth ahead of their Women’s World Cup defence in India and Sri Lanka, leaving out experienced pace bowler Kate Cross.
