A pantomime star from Coventry is gaining thousands of followers online after sharing cherished clips from their childhood home. Rob Madge is currently starring in Sleeping Beauty at the London Palladium, and audiences are responding to his heartfelt tribute to his family's support.
From a home puppet theatre to the West End
Madge, the creator of the stage show My Son's A Queer, said they posted the videos to illustrate how supportive their family had been about their theatre dream after facing bullying as a child.
Their grandparents built a beautiful puppet theatre inside the family home, and they handmade and sewed the costumes for the puppets. It was a big surprise for Madge when they first saw it.
In the clip, the excitement on Madge’s face is clear as they are led into a room where their family watches proudly. Theatre life was bright inside the home: the puppet theatre was red and white with a red curtain and stars on the front, and Madge can be heard saying, "It’s actually mine."
