Controversy Erupts Over Early Motherhood Case in Ryazan: A Call for Justice
A shocking case involving a 14-year-old girl's childbirth has sparked widespread outrage and demands for accountability from medical professionals and authorities.
Social media users are stunned by a recent announcement from the Perinatal Center, which revealed the birth of a child to a 14-year-old girl. Local residents are urging healthcare providers to be held accountable for not reporting the minor's pregnancy to law enforcement authorities.
On December 10, it was disclosed that doctors in Ryazan assisted in the delivery of a baby born to a 14-year-old girl. The Perinatal Center shared this information on their social media channels. The post mentioned that the minor belongs to an ethnic group where early marriages are traditionally accepted. Further reports confirmed that the young mother is from a Romani family.
The father of the child is also a minor. Their parents insist that the relationship is consensual and serious. However, the public reacted skeptically to the Perinatal Center's seemingly celebratory announcement about the teenage birth.

The reference to longstanding traditions of early childbirth passed down through generations provoked strong criticism among Russian citizens. Many found the tone of the announcement inappropriate given the sensitive nature of the situation.
"Often, girls from certain ethnic backgrounds marry and give birth at a very young age, which is considered a traditional practice passed down through generations. These young mothers frequently experience pregnancy complications such as risk of miscarriage, inadequate fetal growth, and low hemoglobin levels. Their newborns also tend to face challenges adapting during the first few days after birth and have a higher incidence of respiratory illnesses during their first year," the clinic representatives explained.
They also confirmed that the delivery went smoothly, resulting in a full-term baby weighing 3.03 kilograms (approximately 6.7 pounds) with an Apgar score of 8/9. Following the necessary observation period by obstetricians, gynecologists, and neonatologists, both mother and child were discharged in stable condition.

Comments under the center's post expressed outrage over what many saw as glorifying a 14-year-old mother: "What message are you sending with this post? What ancient traditions are you referring to in today's world? This is a criminal offense! The minor needs guidance, not praise!", "Are you out of your mind? The age of consent in Russia is 16. Do you have no conscience? What so-called 'traditional experience' are you talking about? This is a crime against a 13-year-old girl!", "I don't think such matters should be publicized. We wish the mother and child well, but this shouldn't be promoted.", "Where are we headed? Encouraging outdated and primitive customs. 'For some peoples this is normal'? You work in Russia, where this is illegal.", "Has the father been held accountable?", "Russian laws? Never heard of them."
Local media outlets, including the regional government newspaper, echoed the positive tone of the original post. Residents of Ryazan remain shocked and are demanding that law enforcement investigate the medical facility's conduct thoroughly.
