American Cameron Young sealed his maiden PGA Tour victory at the Wyndham Championship, finishing 22 under par with a closing round of 68 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. At 28 years old and in his 94th Tour start, he birdied five of six holes early on to secure a six-shot triumph over compatriot Mac Meissner.
“I’ve been waiting for it for a while,” Young said with emotion. “I wasn’t going to let it slip away today.” After a bogey at the first, he rattled off birdies at holes two through six and maintained his lead despite late bogeys on the 16th and 17th.
Young becomes the 1,000th winner in PGA Tour history. He also expressed his desire to qualify for the Ryder Cup in New York this September, calling the event “the goal for many of us.”
